Language Arts Kit A (pre-k(3)/kindergarten/1st grade)

KLA-DL5-0306: Language Arts Kit A ($249.95)

When you buy the kit, you save. Phonics, reading, storytelling, pre-writing, beginner spelling, beginner grammar (noun, verb, article, adjective), and typing for 3-to-6-year-olds. Your pre-k, kindergarten, or 1st-grade student will learn letter sounds, letter names, begin to blend CVC words (plus so much more), and most importantly - learn to LOVE language arts.

This comprehensive all-in-one language arts program features Montessori-based, scripted, multi-sensory activities that make abstract concepts like letters concrete, then gracefully transition the child to the abstract. Language Arts Kit A uses the same, proven methodology found in ShillerLearning Math Kits I, II, and Fractions. Free lifetime downloads of music and replacement consumables for use with the whole family means one kit works for the whole family with nothing else to buy!

Over $300 if purchased separately, Language Arts Kit A includes:

  • 4 color lesson books with lay-flat binding, covering 2 years of language arts: Books 1, 2, 3, and 4 (see inside)
  • 28 language arts song downloads that integrate with the lessons (there is a song for EVERY letter of the alphabet)
  • Book of Mother Goose Rhymes (treasure reading to your child)
  • 22 in. x 34 in. work mat (defines the workspace, promotes good work habits, and helps to focus attention)
  • 155-piece red (consonants) and blue (vowels) wooden movable alphabet in a divided wooden box with tray lid that doubles as a tracing tray (you'll keep this forever)
  • grain for small hand letter writing (use with tray lid of movable alphabet)
  • 10 pink and blue Montessori shape insets with knobs and matching bases - fun handwriting manipulative to practice every stroke for all 26 letters of the alphabet (can be used for endless pattern and artwork projects)

  • 30-day money-back guarantee

As nice as the math program

As expected, the language arts kit is a convenient open and go curriculum in which the parent doesn’t need a Montessori background. It is gentle, yet thorough and rigorous. We love Shiller Learning!

Language Arts Kit A (PreK/K-G1) Digital

I gave it 4 stars because it’s great, but not perfect.
Pros:
1 and 2. It is very Montessori and easy to follow: I started my now six year old on a different Montessori program when she was 3. It was too hard for me to follow. And there were too many extras to source/purchase/make. But I ended up reading a lot about Montessori in the process. And this is the first program I’ve found that really seems true to the Montessori method. But the open and go structure, has made all the difference for me.
3. It is affordable. And you have downloads for life. I love this because my iPad is always losing my downloads and has very low storage. I’ve definitely taken advantage of this. Also great, because I can also use the program for my now 3 year old.
4. The LAtests help you find the lessons you need, without starting all over again - if your like me, and you’ve already dabbled in several programs.
5. The simple organizer on the first page, I jot down the date, time put in, and the lesson number. This simple tool has been very helpful for me.
6. The supplement videos really hit at the heart of Montessori, and real problems that we run into while presenting a lesson.
6. The customer service was great. Shout out to Amanda. She listened to my concerns, and fixed them, very quickly!
7. The songs and some of the lessons get us moving. And that helps us pay attention. My six year old learned the letters on another program and every program seems to have a set of songs, but these are the first ones to keep her interest.
Cons:
1. I have found mistakes in the lessons. They are obvious, but unfortunate. For example: the answer/explanation as to which words start with a letter were wrong in one lesson I looked at (I think it was letter R). If the instructor knows what R is, you won’t have a problem fixing this wording while presenting.
2. I think some of the LAtests lesson suggestions did not line up with the actual lesson number. For example, the test might suggest doing lesson 52 to teach about story telling. But lesson 54 might be the actual lesson on storytelling, while 52 is a letter lesson. Again, easy to fix for the instructor. But if you were using the build your own lesson online, it might be frustrating. I haven’t actually tried the lesson builder.
3. I’ve had trouble with the website. Even though customer service is quick to help, it is unfortunate to have to deal with that.
